Sebastian Grieve - Official Reading Guide
- CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS FOR...Books One, Two, Three, and Four
The correct reading order revealed!
In the Introduction to the SG series, I noted some clues as to the correct reading order. In particular, there is a scene in The Mythic where Lucy browses along Amber’s bookcase and reads the titles in this order: Sebastian Grieve and the Hermit’s Cauldron, Sebastian Grieve and the Cerulean Caduceus, Sebastian Grieve and the Screaming Skull. But in that scene, it’s not clear whether Lucy is reading left to right, right to left, and/or skipping titles as she goes.
If you’ve been wanting to know the order of the series then keep reading. If not, turn back now!
So what's the answer?
In fact, there’s some Occam’s razor at work above. Lucy is reading the books in the order they’re published without skipping any titles.
However, there’s one thing I haven’t revealed in-world (yet). Like many fantasy epics the SG series is split into sub-series which each have an arc. It doesn’t take eagle-eyed readers to notice that The Mythic Series is not so split. Read into that what you will—I choose to read that I couldn’t be bothered. It’s been a busy life!
So here is the official reading order of the SG series!
The Secrets and Truths Trilogy
Sebastian Grieve and the Hermit’s Cauldron
Sebastian Grieve and the Cerulean Caduceus
Sebastian Grieve and the Screaming Skull
The Stone and Faith Trilogy
Sebastian Grieve and the Crystal Giant
Sebastian Grieve and the Gothic Griffins
Sebastian Grieve and the Cult of Calamity
The Blood and Rage Trilogy
Sebastian Grieve and the Bloodbone Crown
Sebastian Grieve and the Tournament of Hate
Sebastian Grieve and the Children of Hate
But...
Why do the last two books have similar titles?
What, who, or where is “Hate”? Clue: it’s one of those three!
Why is the Bloodbone Crown referred to as the Crown of Blood in a subsequent novel?
Just how many books will there be in the series?
You can find the answers here either on my website or in-world in my novels…
