Sebastian Grieve - Context

If you’ve perused the summaries for the Sebastian Grieve books you might notice a few things. SPOILERS ahead so if you don’t want the plots of the series ruined, don’t read any further until you’re all caught up (the series currently goes up to Book Nine).

First, I hope they’re a fun read. I had a blast coming up with the byzantine plots and a couple of readers have contacted me to say they’re actually better than The Mythic Series! Of course, I will put all those readers’ names into future books and have them suffer terrible fates!

Second, you’ll see that the convoluted plots include, at their core, a constantly shifting love triangle between lead character Sebastian Grieve, girl-genius Magnolia Maguire, and Derek Dippy, who very much lives up to his name. I am not a fan of love triangles. I can’t explain it, but I simply find them boring. However, they are a staple of the types of books Sebastian Grieve is meant to evoke, and so I wedged a love triangle right in the middle. You’re welcome!

Third, the SG books are regularly referenced, and critiqued, in The Mythic Series. Lucy is not a fan and certainly not a reader. Amber, on the other hand, lives and breathes SG. If you’ve read The Mythic and the Illustrious Lie you will know that SG author Mary Phiter appears to have some special link to Aedea, as the stories in the series are very connected to that world. That will be explained. Perhaps in Book Five. Okay, yes, it’s all explained in Book Five!

Fourth, and finally, I hope you like the covers. As with everything on my site, they’re my designs, using images generously provided free by various artists (links to the originals, just like all the pictures I use that aren’t my own, are underneath the covers). I’m actually a little jealous of myself—I prefer the layout of the titles and author name to my own books!

So which of the SG books do you wish you could read? Do you have a favourite cover? Or favourite plot point? I’d love to hear your thoughts! And yes, there are more SG books coming so please be in touch! Your ideas might change the course of the series itself.
