FANTASY IS ABOUT TO GET A DOSE OF REALITY!
THE CONCEPT
Where do ideas come from?
What if many of our creative ideas were based on real events, the real events of another world? That would certainly explain how so many stories from across the world – especially ancient myths and legends – feature similar, sometimes identical, plots and themes?
Welcome to The Mythic Series!
The Mythic Series is a set of smartly irreverent action-fantasy novels based on the premise that all our stories are inspired by the real lives of those in another, magical, world. Everything from ancient Roman mythology to the rolling rock death trap in Raiders of the Lost Ark, from the scientific terms for snakes to the names of the elements on the periodic table, from famous fairy tales to obscure idioms, was inspired by that parallel world.
The Other World - Aedea
In the magical world of Aedea the extra-ordinary is ordinary. War-like butterflies and moths rub wings with talking pigs in literally-named towns like Port and Jetty. The seasons have decided not to change and so it is always spring, summer, autumn or winter depending on where you live.
Places and people known only from our ancient and modern mythology, from science, art, and stories live and breathe. However, they are not precisely as they appear in our stories, for Aedea is the raw material for our ideas, not a blueprint.
How did someone come up with idea for a minotaur? Why do we call red, yellow and blue ‘primary’ colours? Why is evil typically portrayed as ‘dark’ and good ‘light’? The Mythic Series reveals the answers to these things and many, many others.

THE CHARACTERS
Lucy Knight and the Heroine's Journey
Imagine that only one person stood between us and the end of the world. Now imagine she has to save two worlds. Now imagine that she’s the last person in either world who should be given that responsibility.
You’ve just imagined fifteen-year-old Lucy Knight. She’s miserable and foul-mouthed. She hates everything, especially the typical heroes of fantasy books. You know the ones – brave, skinny types who ultimately rise to the challenge.
Lucy is none of those things. She doesn’t even know there’s a challenge and she mightn’t be bothered to rise for anything. Even getting out of bed for school every morning is an accomplishment.
But somehow, some way, Lucy Knight will become the saviour we need her to be. Just don’t expect her journey to heroism to be pretty. Or quick. But do expect it to be funny. And exciting.
Fortunately for us, Lucy is not alone. She is assisted by her best friend, Amber Kim, an optimistic girl-genius who has only one fear – everything!
Along the way the two girls will be joined by Henry, a blue minotaur who is quick to see red and Big Bear, a cat who will steal their hearts – and pick their pockets.
Fate will throw this foursome together, but can they stay together long enough to save both worlds?
